Inmar's Vice President of Regulatory Compliance Selected to Serve on Advisory Panel for Senate Bill 1757

January 6, 2010

Press Release

Inmar today announced that its vice president of regulatory compliance Rodney Bias has been selected to join the advisory group for Texas State Senate Bill 1757. The bill, passed in June 2009, requires the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to study existing and alternative methods for the disposition of unused pharmaceuticals. The group will also study how disposal methods impact the environment and public health. Bias was invited to be a representative of the reverse distributor stakeholders in the Advisory Group.

Bias welcomes the opportunity to participate on the panel. "Improper pharmaceutical disposal threatens human and environmental health, and if not addressed, could lead to serious problems in water quality, solid waste management, illegal use and abuse," says Bias. He adds that, "This issue is of growing concern to our clients in the pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, Inmar is aggressively pursuing solutions that enable our clients to offer solutions to consumers and to comply with all evolving regulatory requirements."

Currently, no federal regulations exist to handle unused medications; thus, like Texas, a number of states have passed laws or are in the process of passing laws to address the issue. Bias believes that the current reverse distribution process may offer the most logical solution for managing such programs because it possesses the infrastructure, regulatory knowledge, and processes to implement such programs quickly, ensure compliance and reduce the risk of abuse through diversion. Inmar offers a white paper that discusses the issues and challenges associated with Pharmaceutical Take-Back Programs.  Contact solutions@inmar.com to request a copy.

Bias also serves on the ASIS Pharmaceutical Security Council and the Agriculture & Food Security Council.
